LARRY M. SIMONSMEIER MASTER OF SCIENCE IN PHARMACY FELLOWSHIP
Press Release 2011 Larry M. Simonsmeier Fellowship Recipient Announced
“The University of Florida and ASPL share an educational mission ‘to promote understanding of the legal aspects of pharmacy practice,’” said David Brushwood, R.Ph., J.D., founder and director of the UF Online MS Pharmacy program. “Marsha Holloman has served in pharmacy regulation for more than two decades through the American Pharmacists Association and at CDER. Her personal interests and professional goals make her the perfect match for the inaugural Simonsmeier Fellowship.” Newly established in 2011, ASPL and the University of Florida plan to award one Simonsmeier Fellowship annually, a $22,500 value, to an ASPL member who has been accepted into the UF graduate program. The Online MS Pharmacy program is a non-thesis degree in areas of pharmacy regulation, policy and economics. The Fellowship entitles the recipient to a full tuition waiver for the required 30 credits. Students can complete the studies in as little as two years, and will be responsible for fees related to program services. The Simonsmeier Fellowship annual application deadline is July 1. Instructions can be found on the ASPL website.
“As an academic lawyer-pharmacist who became Dean of Pharmacy at Washington State University and served ASPL in many different ways for more than 25 years, Larry Simonsmeier made a commitment both to the ASPL and to promoting pharmacy education,” said Brushwood, a professor of pharmaceutical outcomes and policy at the UF College of Pharmacy. Brushwood, an ASPL member since 1978 and ASPL president from 1988 to 1989, established the fellowship to honor his friend’s dedication to the advancement of the field of pharmacy law through mentorship and service to ASPL. “Larry touched the lives of so many ASPL members through his friendship, selfless work and dedication and we are so proud to able to participate in this program,” said ASPL President Frank Palumbo. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with the University of Florida for many years to come as we honor our colleague’s memory.” ### About ASPL Larry M.
