Programs and Services
ASPL is dedicated to providing quality programs and services in an effort to expand the base of knowledge pertaining to Pharmacy Law to its members.
This is accomplished through...
Distributing Information of Interest via Newsletter and other publications
Rx Ipsa Loquitur is a bi-monthly newsletter featuring recent court decisions, legislative and regulatory news, and other current pharmacy law news and articles.
PHARMA LAW E-News is a monthly electronic bulletin with up-to-date information about critical issues and association activities.
Providing Forums For Networking and the Exchange of Information Pertaining to Pharmacy Law
ASPL Developments in Pharmacy Law Seminar has become an annual highlight, with nationally renowned speakers and panelists discussing issues pertaining to pharmacy law. This seminar has evolved into an excellent educational opportunity for practicing pharmacists, attorneys, and academicians with the opportunity to gain both pharmacy and legal continuing education credits.
ASPL conducts its Annual Meeting in conjunction with the annual meeting of the American Pharmacists Association. This meeting features:
- Contributed Papers Sessions: Papers on professional liability, health care law, pharmacy regulations, recent court decisions, and other timely and relevant topics.
- Co-sponsorship and significant contribution to APhA's programming.
- ASPL Awards Reception, at which time the Larry M. Simonsmeier Award is presented.
- ASPL Annual Membership Luncheon and Meeting
Many National Pharmacy and Other Organizations have invited ASPL to conduct, co-sponsor, or help in the planning of educational programs on pharmacy law for their attendees. These include meetings of the

Fostering Knowledge and Education Pertaining to the Rights and Duties of Pharmacists
ASPL recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of pharmacy law through its Awards program. The Larry M. Simonsmeier Award recognizes an outstanding paper related to pharmacy law and the interests of ASPL. The ASPL Legal Research Award is designed to encourage scholarly legal writing on topics relevant to practicing pharmacists or attorneys. The Joseph L. Fink, III, Founders Award recognizes sustained and outstanding service and contributions to the professions of pharmacy and law.
ASPL has long been a resource used by state and local pharmacy associations as a source for continuing education speakers. The relationship has been developed to bring pharmacy law topics and expertise to the practicing pharmacist at the local level.
Referral and Expert Witness Services
ASPL offers two services that are available to the general public. The ASPL Attorney Referral Service allows interested parties to connect with a lawyer who is an expert in Pharmacy Law. The ASPL Expert Witness Program consists of members of ASPL (pharmacist or pharmacist/attorneys) who are interested in providing their services of expert testimony and/or consulting services pertaining to pharmacy professional liability claims or other pharmacy law matters.
New services are continually being evaluated to assist pharmacists and lawyers in meeting their constantly changing practice needs.
