ASPL Next Steps Campaign Funding Opportunities

"As a voluntary non-profit organization, ASPL relies on modest dues from members and contributions in order to provide its services. ASPL is now ready to take the "Next Step" to expand educational offerings, launch exiting new projects and services and grow to its fullest potential."

Operational Excellence Fund Goal: $100,000

The Operational Excellence Fund consists of unrestricted gifts to ASPL and will be used to assist ASPL in taking the "Next Step". Operational Excellence Funds may be used for maintaining existing programs and services, including administration and fundraising, but will also be used to develop and implement new programs and services. The ASPL Board of Directors has identified a number of new services for the Society to develop and implement including an attorney referral service and an expert witness listing service. These types of innovative programs require significant funds to establish and maintain. Operational Excellence Funds may also be used to provide additional educational programs and to increase ASPL’s national exposure by allowing for informational exhibit booths at various national pharmacy and legal meetings. Operational Excellence Funds may also be invested in order to insure the long term financial stability of the Society. As unrestricted gifts, donations to the Operational Excellence Fund will, in essence, provide the Board of Directors the flexibility to allow ASPL to meet the future needs of the Society head on and to truly take the "Next Step" towards the future.

Pharmacy Law Resource Center Goal: $50,000

Both the pharmacy and legal professions need a single, comprehensive, reliable resource they can turn to for information on relavent pharmacy law issues. ASPL, as the national organization representing individuals interested in the area of pharmacy law, should be the source of that information. The Pharmacy Law Resource Center will be a web-based information center which will be the premier source of legal information impacting the practice of pharmacy. The site would include a searchable database of articles on pharmacy law topics, information on current legal and regulatory issues in pharmacy, legislative and regulatory research tools, and links to other useful sites.

ASPL may combine its efforts with a selected law school in order to establish the Pharmacy Law Resource Center. Potential funding for this center is primarily being solicited through foundation grants and other funding sources.

Scholarships for Pharmacy Law Teachers Goal: $25,000

ASPL is establishing a scholarship fund specifically for instructors of pharmacy law that will allow for their attendance at ASPL Educational Programs to further enhance their knowledge of the legal issues impacting the practice of pharmacy. ASPL currently offers outstanding educational programs at our annual Developments in Pharmacy Law Seminar and as part of the programming at the American Pharmacists Association’s Annual Meeting. Many pharmacy law instructors have indicated an interest in attending one or both of these educational programs, but limited financial resources available to them through many universities and colleges often makes it difficult for them to do so. This fund would provide financial resources to defray some of the costs of attending these educational programs for full-time instructors of pharmacy law at accredited schools and colleges of pharmacy.

Pharmacy Law Symposium Goal: $25,000

As the practice of pharmacy continues to move toward a more patient-oriented practice, pharmacy jurisprudence must also evolve to reflect the ever-changing role of the pharmacist. The Pharmacy Law Symposium will bring together leaders in pharmacy and pharmacy law to present papers and address developing pharmacy jurisprudence. The Pharmacy Law Symposium will be sponsored by ASPL, in conjunction with a pharmacy school and law school. Academic and industry leaders alike will not want to miss this. A similar symposium entitled, "The Evolving Pharmacy Jurisprudence: Changing the Law for a Changing Profession" was held at Drake University in 1995. The Drake symposium was quite successful and resulted in publication of the symposium papers in the Drake Law Review in 1996. Papers for this symposium will be published in a leading law review and abstracts will be distributed to pharmacists nationwide through pharmacy journals and other professional publications.
